Abstract
903,314. Expansion joints. YUBA CONSOLIDATED INDUSTRIES Inc. March 31, 1960 [July 21, 1959], No. 11355/60. Class 99(1). In an expansion joint for incorporation in a pipe line and comprising flanged end members 1, 2 having a corrugated bellows 9 between them, the member 2 is provided with opposed segmental channel flanges 19 defining inward and outward limit stops 22, 21, and the member 1 is formed with opposed, radially outwardly directed segmental flanges 23. In addition one or more equalizing members 14 may be provided around the bellows 9 and each of these members is formed with an inner peripheral part 18 extending between corrugations 11 of the bellows 9 and with an outer peripheral part having flanges corresponding to those of the members 2 and 1 respectively, the flanges 23 of the members 1 and 14 having lost motion engagement with the flanges 19 of the members 14 and 2 respectively for limiting relative axial movement of the members 1, 2. As shown, two ring members are used between the end members 1, 2 which are separated by a multi-corrugation bellows. Alternatively, the bellows consist of only one corrugation and the ring members are dispensed with, the flanges or the end members engaging with one another. Each ring member 14 consists of semi-annular parts provided with ears 15 through which engage securing bolts 16. The end members 1, 2 are formed with diametrically opposed bosses through which pass rods 8 which carry the weight of the members 14 and which may be removed when the joint is placed in use.
