A joint for axially aligned pipes 12, 14 comprises an outer, hollow body 16 telescoping over the pipe 14 and having one end connected to the pipe 12 by a ring 18, and a ring 46 in which the pipe 14 is slidably accommodated, a ring 48 secured to the inner end of the pipe 14 and slidable within the body, and a flexible, corrugated tube 24 disposed between the pipe 14 and the body and having the ends thereof secured and sealed to the pipe and body; there is a pair of interengaging, axially, relatively slidable means respectivelyon the body and pipe 14 for preventing them from turning relatively to each other. As shown, the ring 48 has a number of circumferentially spaced lugs 58 which extend into corresponding axial slots 54 in a sleeve 50, Undue expansion of the joint is prevented by abutment of the lugs with a continuous, end portion 56 of the sleeve. Prior to installation in a piping system, the joint is partially extended to place the tube 24 under compression and maintained in this position by a split ring 60 ; the ring is removed upon completion of the. joint to permit free, relative axial movement of the pipes 12, 14. The tube 24 is subjected only to external fluid pressure, the space between the tube and pipe 14 being vented to atmosphere. In a modification, the pipe 14 has a non-circular portion, e.g. hexagonal, and slides in a complementary aperture in a guide ring 92, axial extension of the joint being limited by a split ring 94 engageable with the ring 92.
