Abstract

A cerumenolytic preparation comprises a hygroscopic aqueous-miscible solvent non-toxic to the ear and a protein-fatty acid condensate in the form of a salt of N-acylated polypeptides of formula <FORM:0903256/VI/1> where "alkyl" is C8-C20 aliphatic fatty acid residue, (CHR-CO-NH) is an amino acid radical forming a polypeptide by peptide linkages, n is 4 to 10 inclusive, R is hydrogen or alkyl and X is potassium, sodium, lithium or triethanolamine. The hygroscopic solvent may be propylene glycol, glycerine or polyoxyethylene glycol. Antibiotics, antiseptics, anaesthetics anti-inflammatory agents, astringents and anti-histaminics may also be included in the compositions.
