Abstract

A process for the production of a highly reactive, liquid, slag rich in lime in a surface-blown converter comprises mixing a solid fuel with the lime to be added to the bath and igniting the fuel with the oxidizing gas used for blowing. The lime may be comminuted and mixed with finely-divided coal, coke, or wood flour and a flux may be included in the mixture.
