Abstract
1305426 Steelmaking CHEMETRON CORP 13 March 1970 [26 March 1969] 12278/70 Heading C7D [Also in Division F4] In a process for refining steel in a direct arc electric furnace using a water cooled burnerlance 10, oxygen supplied through inner pipe 11 in excess of the stoichiometric quantity is mixed with fuel supplied through concentric pipe 12 in a Venturi 24 and therefrom allowed to expand and burn. The oxygen stream is faster than the fuel stream which may be natural gas, hydrogen, propane or a liquid fuel such as fuel oil, pitch or tar.
