Abstract

1407235 Steel making EISENWERK-GES MAXIMILIANSHUTTE GmbH 4 Oct 1972 [4 Oct 1971] 45781/72 Heading C7D [Also in Division F4] For refining pig iron, a converter is provided with a pair of horizontal nozzles 3 situated below the trunnions 4, each nozzle comprising an inner pipe 5 for O 2 (with lime if desired) surrounded by a steel pipe 8 for a liquid or gaseous hydrocarbon, e.g. natural gas or light heating oil. Each nozzle 3 may be replaced by a group of up to ten nozzles. In Fig. 2 (not shown) the nozzles face each other and the cross-section of the inside of the converter is oval. The inner pipe 5 may be of stainless steel with a ceramic coating, or of copper.
