Abstract
1,253,563. Metallurgical converters. VEREINIGTE OSTERREICHISCHE EISENUND STAHLWERKE A.G. 2 April, 1969 [13 May, 1968], No. 17373/69. Heading F4B. [Also in Division C7] The apparatus comprises a closed hearthtype vessel provided with an inlet passage for supplying a vertical freely-falling stream of iron, and a gas injector for supplying a horizontal stream of refining gas to intersect the metal stream, the injector having a plurality of main outlets so that the gas stream has a cross-section of channel shape. Preferably the injector includes secondary nozzles so that the amount of refining gas may be controlled independently of that needed for atomization. Provision may be incorporated for supplying refining agents to the gas stream.
