Abstract
1488686 Blowing lances SUMITOMO METAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 22 Oct 1974 [22 Oct 1973 14 Dec 1973 28 Jan 1974] 45624/74 Heading F4B [Also in Division C7] In the decarburization of steel, oxygen is blown upon the melt surface by a lance having a Laval nozzle cooled by means of atomized liquid water. The cooling device for the Laval nozzle 2 includes an air inlet 8, passages 6 and 7 and outlet 9, the water being introduced through nozzle 11 of pipe 10 into a constricted region 12 of inner passage 6 to effect complete atomization.
