Abstract

902,311. Cartons. ROWNTREE & CO. Ltd. Feb. 8, 1961 [Feb. 10, 1960], No. 4716/60. Class 18. A carton for an Easter egg or light bulk has four identical rectangular or traperoidal sides 2, 4, 6, 8 joined into a tube by a flap 10, with the side 6 provided with an opening 12 through which the contents, which are supported between a separate floor 16 and a bulkhead 20, may be seen. The carton is provided with a hinged lid 30 subdivided into panels 34 and 38 disposed symmetrically about a transverse line 36, along which the lugs 44 are pinched towards one another, so that when the lid is placed over the folded flaps 24, 26 the lugs may engage recesses 46 whereby the triangular panels 38 move into near-vertical planes raising the lid in the centre and the lid with the flange 40 tucked beneath the flaps 26 and 28 becomes firmly locked. The carton may be opened by pulling outwards an integral tongue 42, which is folded back against the flange so as to project from the carton. In another modification (not shown) the lid may be a separate component having an additional flange in lieu of the hinge and the lid is formed to present three concave panels.
