Abstract

901,993. Connecting rod and crosshead assemblies. DOXFORD & SONS (ENGINEERS) Ltd., WILLIAM, and JACKSON, P. May 4, 1959 [June 4, 1958], No. 17808/58. Class 122 (1). In an internal combustion or other piston engine the central portion of the crossheadpin 15 is formed with three flat surfaces 15a, 15b and 15c respectively connected to a bracket 19 carrying a connection 20 for coolant and/or lubricating liquid, the foot 18 of the pistonrod 13 and the crosshead slipper 12a and also with an arcuate surface 16 that engages a concave bearing surface 24a of a pad 24 attached to the connecting rod 14 so that the thrust from the piston-rod is transmitted directly to the connecting rod. The pad 24 is located on the rod 14 by a spigot 25 and socket 26. The ends 15d of the pin 15 are journalled in bearing blocks 22, 23 secured to the connecting rod on each side of the pad 24. Lubricant and/or coolant passages 27, 28 may be provided in the pin 15 and in the pad 24.
