Abstract
A dry, substantially non-greasy, non-adherent and somewhat absorbent dressing is formed by treating a continuous filament rayon fabric, preferably cellulose diacetate, with (a) a concentrated aqueous emulsion of an oil, fat or wax made with a morpholine soap or a soap of another volatile substituted ammonium compound, said emulsion containing from 5 to 10% of a polyethylene glycol and then drying to remove excess moisture, or (b) a concentrated aqueous solution of a polyethylene glycol with a molecular weight of 400 or more and then drying at a temperature of 90 DEG to 120 DEG C. The fabric preferably is netted or has a close texture with a count of approximately 80 : 60 warp and weft. The emulsion (a) is preferably of 25 to 50% concentration. Optional additives to the emulsion or solution are anti-bacterial substances or other healing agents, a small percentage, e.g. 1%, of an alkaline substance such as borax or sodium alginate, and a small percentage, e.g. 1 to 2%, of a swelling agent such as methyl cellulose. Specification 723,226 is referred to.
