Abstract

899,018. Two-part couplings. AMP Inc. Dec. 22, 1960 [Dec. 22, 1959], No. 44056/60. Class 38 (1). A multiple connector assembly comprising an insulating block 2 for pin or socket connectors has a shield consisting of two identical parts 26, 261, having recesses co-operating to define an aperture receiving the block and an aperture 36 to receive the connector leads 6, clamp members 48, 481, having arcuate jaws 52 to releasably clamp the leads being attached to the shield parts, and lugs such as 38 being provided on the shield parts for attaching them to the block by screws passing through holes 57 in flanges 8 on the block. Apertures 8<1> in flanges 8 receive jack screws 10 with milled knobs 24 projecting above the shield and by which they are rotated. Clamp members 48, 48<1>, have bent-up portions 55, 55<1>, to guide the leads 6 into aperture 36 when the shield parts are assembled, assembly being possible with or without jack screws 10 in position. The fixing screws in openings 57 may be omitted and one may be replaced by a plug or socket member for polarizing the block 2 when connected to a similar block. Block 2 may be mounted in an aperture in a panel (Figs. 7, 8, not shown), the jack screws having socketed extensions for connection with a second block, and which with screws in holes 57 secure the shield, block and panel together. Fig. 5 shows an embodiment wherein the shield parts 126, 126<1> each have a single side-wall flange 62 with inwardly extending lugs 64, 66, formed with threaded openings 70, 68, for receiving screws 721 and 1721 respectively, which secure the parts together and to the block. Jack screws are not provided in this embodiment but may be, if desired (Fig. 6, not shown).
