[Also in Groups XXXI and XXXII] A self propelled roller comprises four front driven steerable wheels A and four rear wheels B disposed, as shown in Fig. 3, to present a continuous rolling surface, the space between the inner front wheels being occupied by a differential driving gear 6. The front wheels A are pivotally mounted in pairs on the arms 91 and 9<SP>11</SP> of a yoke 9, Fig. 4, which is mounted for rotation in the frame 1 and the rear wheels are pivotally mounted in pairs on the arms of a yoke 28, Fig. 5, pivoted to the frame at 29. The pivotal mounting 14 of the front wheels comprises a chain driven sprocket 37, Fig. 8, rotation of which rotates the yoke 9, the sprocket being connected by a mechanism not shown to the steering wheel. The input member of the differential gear is driven through a shaft 14, bevel gear 38 and cardan shaft 40 from the engine 2. The output members of the differential gear are connected to universal joints 22, Fig. 6, from which the outer front wheels 10 are driven through telescopic driving shafts 15. The hubs of the inner wheels 11 are flared to avoid contact with the shafts 15 over the full range of pivotation of the wheel pairs 10 and 11. The wheels 10 and 11 may be mounted for separate rotation in the spherical bearing 25, or the axles 23, 24 may be rigidly connected. Shoulders 26 cooperating with a flange 27 limit the pivotal movement of the wheel pairs 10, 11 about the spherical bearings 25. The rear wheel pairs are mounted upon shafts 19 in spherical bearings 25, the pivotal movements of which are similarly limited, the shafts 19 being rigidly connected to the conical hubs 30 of the outer wheels 15 and connected by universal joints 31 to the hubs 32 or 33 of the inner wheels 17 or 18, the hubs 32 and 33 being connected by a telescopic shaft 34, 35.
