Abstract

1519118 Vehicle wheel drive arrangements THYSSEN INDUSTRIE AG 24 Feb 1977 [11 March 1976] 07806/77 Heading B7H The driven wheels 1 of a vehicle, particularly of a rail vehicle, are mounted to be axially slidable and are driven by shafts 13, 13<SP>1</SP> articulated to an intermediate shaft 12 slidably mounted within a hollow output shaft 11 of the axle gear. The arrangement has the advantage of reducing the unsprung axle mass and allows high rotary speeds. The gear 10 is mounted on the bogie frame with output shaft 11 surrounding shaft 12. Shafts 13, 13<SP>1</SP> extend through hollow wheel hubs 2 which are axially slidably supported by bearings 3, 4 in torsionally rigid rocker arms 6 pivoted to the bogie frame (Fig. 2, not shown). In another arrangement (Fig. 6, not shown) the wheel hub is axially slidably supported by bearings on an internal stub shaft extending from a rocker arm.
