840,263. Articulated vehicles. BROWN, D. J. B., and HUNSLET ENGINE CO. Ltd. Oct. 13, 1958 [Oct. 16, 1957], No. 32306/57. Class 79(3). A four-wheeled drive vehicle comprises a pair of units 4, 5 each including an axle 6 carrying a pair of driving wheels 8 and an engine 10 for driving the wheels, means pivotally inter-connecting the units about a normally vertical axis equi-spaced from the middles of the two axles, and means 17 for imparting relative angular movement to the two units to steer the vehicle. A rectangular frame 12 braced in an upright position on the unit 5 by stays 13 is pivotally mounted between the ends of a yoke 14 connected to the unit 4 by a horizontal shaft 15. The means 17 consists of a doubleacting hydraulic ram connected between the yoke 14 and a pivot at one side of the frame 12. Each unit includes a clutch 11 and a gear box 9 which may alternatively be mounted in line with the engine 10. The unit 5 may be controlled hydraulically from the unit 4.
