Abstract

1280638 Articulated vehicles JOHNSON MACHINERY Ltd 13 Nov 1969 [4 Dec 1968] 57460/68 Heading B7H An articulated dump truck includes front and rear chassis parts 10, 12 pivotally interconnected by a slewing ring 20 whose disposition is such as to provide a vertical or substantially vertical steering articulation axis. Ring 20, which may be slightly inclined to the horizontal to give the two parts 10, 12 a longitudinal self-aligning effect, has two parts 18, 22 connected to respective chassis parts. Ball or roller bearings may be provided between the parts 18, 22. The chassis part 10 may also be capable of pivoting about an horizontal axis or substantially horizontal axis afforded by a bar 14 which is either attached to part 10 and rotatable in bearing blocks 16 secured to ring part 18 of which is attached to ring part 18 and on which part 10 is rotatable. Steering may be by an hydraulic ram 24 disposed between the chassis parts 10, 12. Additionally or alternatively a mechanical steering means, which may be servo assisted may be provided. The truck has four-wheel drive.
