Abstract

636,135. Hydraulic trailer steering. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP HULSEMO. May 28, 1947, No. 14155. Convention date, February 23, 1940. [Classes 79 (iii) and 79 (v) ] In a trailer comprising a chassis frame supported at the rear end by a trailing axle and at the front end by a surface with respect to which it can articulate, the wheels of the axle are steered by hydraulic pumps actuated by and proportionally to the articulation between the chassis frame and the supporting surface. As shown applied to a tractortrailer combination, the tractor 27 has pivoted to it a bearing surface 30 to which can be connected by bolts a supporting member 29 carried by a shaft 6 rotatably mounted on the chassis frame 1a of the trailer. The shaft 6 carries a gear wheel 9 meshing with racks 10, 11 each connected to a piston 12 in a hydraulic cylinder 13 on the trailer. Each cylinder 13 is connected by a pipe 15 to a cylinder 14 within which is a piston 16. Each piston 16 is linked to steering arms 18, 18<SP>1</SP> of axles 23, 231, so that on articulation between the tractors and trailer the wheels 3, 31 are steered. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the application to trailer having front and rear axles, the front axle being rotatable about a vertical axis on the trailer and capable of being connected to the tractor. The articulation between the front axle and the trailer is utilised to produce steering movements of the wheels of the rear axle in a similar manner. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
