Abstract
896,843. Collapsible boxes. GRUNDY (TEDDINGTON) Ltd., and GRUNDY, S. W. April 8, 1959 [April 8, 1958], No. 11053/58. Class 18. The lid 11 of a collapsible box of the kind having the front, rear and end walls hinged to a base 13, is hinged to the rear wall 14 through a plate 16, the hinge line of the plate 16 to either the lid 11 or rear wall 14 being situated along a line spaced from the sides of and transverse to the lid 11 or rear wall 14 respectively. To collapse the box shown in Fig. 1 the rear wall 14 is folded down on to the base 13,. the plate 16 folded against the bottom half of the rear wall 14, the end walls 15 folded in, the front wall 12 folded downwardly and the lid folded on to the base 13 which has upstanding perimeter parts 13a, with that of the rear upstanding less than the others to provide a space to collapse the box. In the erected position the walls engage by fillets, channels, inturned edges &c. 18. In a modification, Fig. 5, the plate 16 is hinged to the top edge of the rear wall and to the transverse centre of the underside of the lid 11 against which the plate 16 lies when the box is in the collapsed position. The box may be made of metal.
