A carton 10 comprising side walls 18, 19, end walls 15, 16, a bottom 12, a top closure 21 having, when closed, a longitudinal slot 30 therein centrally thereof, has an interior assembly fixed to the wall structure defining adjacent rows of article receiving compartments 72. The interior assembly includes a member, Fig. 3, forming a longitudinal partition 42 extending centrally in the carton and having an upper edge 43 located immediately below and bearing against the top closure, a plurality of transverse partitions 53, 54 integrally connected at one end with the longitudinal partition and secured at the other end 74, 75 to an adjacent wall of the carton, and a handle 78 movable vertically relative to the longitudinal partition 42. The-handle is completely within the carton when the top is closed, and is movable through the slot to an extended position above the top. The upward movement of the handle is limited by the upper edge of a body portion of the handle engaging the upper edge 43 of the partition 42 (see Fig. 4). The side closure flaps may be cut along lines 35, 36 to form tabs 37, 38 which provide access to facilitate the raising of the handle. Tabs 92, on the handle engage the upper edge 43 of the partition and prevent the handle falling within the longitudinal partition. The top closing flaps may be secured by glue or by staples. The ends 74, 75 of the transverse partitions may be secured to the carton walls by a pressure sensitive adhesive. Specifications 832,308, 858,214 and 896,480 are referred to.
