Abstract

962,581. Egg cartons. NONSUCH PACKAGING Ltd. Oct. 19, 1962 [Sept. 6, 1961], No. 32069/61. Heading B8P. A cardboard egg carton consists of a collapsible rectangular shell 1 retained in open position by top and bottom trays inset and adhered within the carton, each similarly apertured at intervals to locate a plurality of eggs the floor of each tray being folded-up outwardly of the carton to form a transverse rib 21 extending between the tray side walls 23 and near each end of the tray to prevent the cartons from falling into one another when stacked. The upper tray has wings 15 by which it is adhered to the walls of the outer shell, so rendering the carton tamper-proof. The lower tray has in addition a rib in the centre of its length ex. tending towards the upper tray. The shell is formed from two U-shaped parts which have apertures to allow the contents to be viewed. A tear line 5 and ripcord 4 allow the upper tray to be hinged about a fold on the wall opposite to the ripcord.
