Abstract
895,880. Valves; nozzles. WELSMAN, B. H. Sept. 30, 1960 [Sept. 30, 1959], No. 33189/59. Classes 69 (3) and 135. A valve comprises a resilient, axially-compressible tubular sleeve 1 being integral with or sealed at its ends to a nozzle 2 and a valve housing 3 respectively, the housing being adapted for connection to a fluidpressure conduit and incorporating a seat 5 co-operating with a closure member 11, 12 carried by the nozzle, the arrangement being such that when the housing is connected to a supply of fluid under pressure, the closure member is held closed by fluid-pressure and may be opened by moving the nozzle towards the housing. The closure member is formed with two balls 11, 12, the ball 11 being secured to a stem 9 which is supported by a spider 7 clamped in the nozzle by a ring 8, the ball 12 being a sliding fit on the stem. In operation, the nozzle 2 is moved towards the housing thereby deforming the resilient sleeve 1 and, via the stem 9, lifting the ball 11 off the larger ball 12 so as to permit a flow through the nozzle via flutes provided in the stem; further movement of the nozzle causes a shoulder 10 on the stem to abut the ball 12 thereby lifting it away from the seat 5 and allowing a greater flow of fluid through the nozzle. The closure member or members, the nozzle and the valve housing may be of metal, plastics material or rubber.
