Abstract

Particles of fertilizer are coated with e.g. calcium carbonate, china clay or plaster of Paris, by contacting them with a hot gas to make their surfaces liquid or plastic and then feeding them to a dish granulator e.g. of the kind described in Specification 811,610, containing the coating material. The fertilizer may be urea alone or mixed with ammonium sulphate and/or potassium chloride or in a specific example 10% ammonium nitrate, 70% ammonium sulphate and 20% potassium chloride, by weight.ALSO:Particles of e.g. urea are coated with e.g. calcium carbonate, china clay or plaster of Paris by contacting them with a hot gas to make their surfaces liquid or plastic and then feeding them to a dish granulator, e.g. of the kind described in Specification 811,610, containing the coating material. The particles are preferably introduced at a zone containing coating material but few particles.
