Abstract

Granular fertilizers are made by granulating a mixture containing monocalcium phosphate (e.g. in the form of ordinary or triple super-phosphate) and urea in such proportions that the finished product contians not more than 20 (e.g. 10-15) %wt. urea, with addition of water (or steam) so that the material leaving the granulator has less than 8 %wt. moisture, drying at and below 95 DEG C. and cooling to less than 35 DEG C., e.g. 20-25 DEG C. The mixture may also contain one or more of (a) other fertilizer materials p such as potassium chloride and ammonium phosphate or sulphate, (b) material recycled from the final stage of the process and (c) finely divided inert material, in minor quantity, e.g. calcium sulphate hemihydrate, kieselguhr or clay.
