Abstract

1,159,445. Granulating fertilizers. PRODUITS CHIMIQUES PECHINEY-SAINTGOBAIN. 12 June, 1967 [13 June, 1966], No. 27019/67. Heading B5A. [Also in Division C1] A granular mixed fertilizer is produced from ingredients in powder form by heating to effect drying and then granulating (by superficial softening) in the same or separate apparatus. Drying and granulating may take place in succession in a cylinder rotating about a horizontal axis and heated externally or internally, e.g. by flame heating. At least one of the ingredients may be a phosphate, nitrate, chloride or sulphate of potassium, ammonium or magnesium; or a superphosphate. Recycle material may be included. The ingredients may be in powder form of particle size 0À2-1À5 mm. Ammonium nitrate may be added as a 95- 99% solution. The product may have a grain size of 2-4 mm., apparent density of 0À9-1À1 gm/c.c., hardness of 5-10 kgm., free moisture content of less than 0À5% ,breaking strain of less than 3 kgm, and a porosity of 0À01 c.c./gm.
