Abstract
A process for the production of granular materials suitable for use as fertilizers comprises the addition of an aqueous ammonium nitrate solution in the form of a spray to solid components of the mixture in a rotary vessel, the formed product being passed to a heating zone in which tumbling of the materials takes place and wherein granulation is effected. The concentration of the solution of ammonium nitrate solution should be in the range 80-87 per cent by weight. The rotary vessel and the heating zone may be combined as one apparatus with the appropriate zones. The solid components may comprise phosphates, superphosphates, potassium slats, ammonium salts, or diluent materials say chalk or dolamite.
