Calcium sulphate hemihydrate is granulated by agitating calcium sulphate hemihydrate either mechanically or pneumatically in the presence of water at 80-90‹ C. and then drying the product. Before or during granulation there may be added methyl cellulose, quartz powder, powdered limestone, perlite dust, asbestos fibres or inorganic colouring matter. An inorganic expanding agent may be added before granulation.
