Abstract

1450246 Shaped calcium sulphate articles SALZGITTER INDUSTRIEBAU GmbH 4 Feb 1974 [5 April 1973] 04969/74 Heading C1A A method for the manufacture of shaped articles from calcium sulphate hemihydrate comprises compressing in a mould a mixture of calcium sulphate hemihydrate and an amount of water which is not more than the stoichiometric amount required for hydration of the hemihydrate to calcium sulphate dihydrate. The residual amount of water stoichiometrically required for said hydration may be applied to the articles after moulding, preferably by spraying. In a preferred process, α-calcium sulphate hemihydrate is used containing 6 to 12% residual water; little or even no water need then be added before the compression moulding.
