Abstract

894,869. Vehicle parking systems. WULLSCHLEGER, A. May 13, 1960 [Dec. 22, 1959], No. 16931/60. Class 78 (1). In a vehicle parking system having cabins 1 suspended from axles 2 extending between a pair of endless chains 11, the cabins are prevented from swinging, over those portions of their path where the chains are deflected around pairs of chain wheels 12, 13, by star wheels 22, 23 driven in synchronism with the wheels 12, 13 and rotating about axes offset from the axes of wheels 12, 13, respectively, the star wheels having projections 27 which engage flared ends of guide channels 28 on the cabins. The star wheels 22, 23 are driven from the wheels 12, 13 by sprocket connections 25. Spur gears may alternatively be used. Each guide channel 28 is arranged vertically, to extend upwardly and downwardly from the corresponding axle 2, the arrangement being such that the point of engagement of a projection 27 with the guide channel 28 is displaced vertically from the axle 2 by a distance equal to the separation of the axes of the corresponding star wheel and chain wheel. Each axle 2 is connected to the chain at each side of the system by a universal joint comprising a bearing 3 for the axle 2 which carries a swivel pin 3a journalled in a bearing 5a which is secured between a pair of T-shaped links 5 incorporated in the chain 11. The cabins are also prevented from swinging on the straight vertical runs of the chains by chain guides 14, 15 and cabin guides 16, 17 engaging rollers 18, 19 on the cabin. In a second embodiment, Fig. 5, extended links 35 are used in place of the T- shaped links 5 to support the axles 2, so that the star wheels 41, 42 have to be offset upwardly or downwardly and to one side with respect to the chain wheels and the guide channels 43 on the cabins inclined to maintain the cabins in vertical depending position. The chain guides are omitted, since on the vertical straight runs the axles 2 are in alignment with the path of the chains. The invention is applicable also to arrangements wherein the endless chains include horizontal or inclined stretches and where chain wheels engage the chains on the outside of the chain path.
