Abstract

968,401. Suspended railway vehicles. E. FEY. Feb. 9, 1961 [Feb. 19, 1960; April 22, 1960], No. 4907/61. Heading B7L. A suspended railway system, Figs. 1 and 2, comprises a U-shaped section guiding rail 10 having a depending central web 11, and a carriage 15 connected by lugs 15a and links 15c to upper pairs of rollers 12 engaging the top edges of rail flanges 10a and lower pairs of rollers 13 engaging beads 10b on the lower edges of the flanges 10a, a pair of carrier members 18 being pivoted to the carriage 15 on vertical axes 17 and urged towards each other by springs 25 on a rod 24 connecting the members, the latter carrying, on vertical spindles, friction rollers 22 engaging opposite sides of the web 11 and driven by electric motors 19 and gears 19a and 20 all mounted on the members. The friction roller spindles also carry smaller rollers 23 which are adapted to engage auxiliary flanges 11a on the web 11 on inclined sections of the track whereby the rollers 22 are disengaged from the web 11, the speed of the carriage is reduced and the driving torque increased, as described with reference to Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown). The auxiliary flanges 11a may be provided at horizontal sections of the track where it is desired to reduce speed. In another embodiment described with reference to Figs. 5 to 7 (not shown), a carriage is connected to the links, connecting the upper and lower pairs of rollers, by rocker arms. The rocker arms carry at their upper ends the pivots of the lower running rollers and at their lower ends are pivotedon vertical axes to the carriage. The lower ends of the rocker arms also carry horizontally disposed links which are pivotally connected to an H-shaped support which carries the friction rollers and their drives. With this arrangement the support can shift transversely of the carriage during movement of the latter around curves of the track in horizontal planes and the running rollers are aligned with the tangents to the curves.
