Abstract

Washing agents in the form of powders, flakes or aqueous solutions may contain soap, alkyl aryl sulphonates, fatty alcohol sulphonates, complex forming phosphates, sodium carbonate, bicarbonate, silicates, sulphate, perborate, or dithionite in addition to an optical brightening agent of the formula:- <FORM:0894744/III/1> wherein X is an amino group, a morpholino group or an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or araliphatic group optionally substituted by chlorine, fluorine or hydroxy, alkoxy, sulphone, carboxyl, nitrile sulphonic or sulphonamide groups, and Y represents hydrogen or a cation such as Na, K, Ca, ammonium or aliphatic substituted ammonium. Specification 705,406 is referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 814,579.ALSO:The invention comprises optical brightening agents of the formula <FORM:0894744/IV (b)/1> wherein X is an amino group, a morpholino group or an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or araliphatic group optionally substituted by chlorine, fluorine or hydroxy, alkoxy, sulphone, carboxyl, nitrile, sulphonic or sulphonamide groups, and Y represents hydrogen or a cation such as Na, K, Ca, ammonium or aliphatic substituted ammonium. The compounds are prepared by condensing two mols. of cyanuric chloride with one mol. of 4,41-diaminostilbene-2,21-disulphonic acid, condensing the product with two mols. of aniline and finally with a mixture of one mol. of aniline and one mol. of an amine HX. Specification 705,406 is referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 814,579.ALSO:Polyamide and cellulose fibres such as cotton, linen and regenerated cellulose fibres are treated in neutral or alkaline baths with optical brightenagents of the formula <FORM:0894744/IV (c)/1> wherein X is an amino group, a morpholino group or an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or araliphatic group optionally substituted by chlorine, fluorine or hydroxy, alkoxy, sulphone, carboxyl, nitrile, sulphonic or sulphonamide groups, and Y represents hydrogen or a cation such as Na, K, Ca, ammonium or aliphatic substituted ammonium. The optical brightening agents may be applied in combination with chemical bleaching agents, e.g. sodium perborate and sodium dithionite. Specification 705,406 is referred to.
