838,893. Preparation of paper pulp. DUETSCHE GOLDUND SILBERSCHEIDEANSTALT VORM. ROESSLER. March 24, 1958 [April 5, 1957 (2)], No. 9358/58. Class 96. Wood, for the production of mechanical wood pulp, is treated prior to or during grinding, with an alkaline solution of peroxidic compounds which yield oxygen, e.g. hydrogen peroxide, or sodium peroxide, perborate, percarbonate, or perphosphate, together with e.g. caustic soda, alkali silicates, and wetting agents &c. There may be 0.2 to 1.2 parts of active oxygen per 100 of dry wood, and the pH value may be maintained at e.g. 12 to 13, e.g. until after thickening, when the pulp is neutralized with sulphuric acid. Kaolin, dye, resin size, and alum may be added to the mechanical wood pulp thus made. Preferably appreciable bleaching does not occur. The pulp may be used alone or with some cellulose.
