Abstract

Wood pulp is treated with an alkaline solution containing a per-compound at 200-280 DEG F. for one hour or less, the density of the pulp being above 10 per cent. The bleaching solution may comprise hydrogen peroxide, and one or more of alkaline phosphates or carbonates or sodium silicate or sodium hydroxide, and the treatment may follow a chlorination extraction and hypochlorite treatment.
