Classes 20(2) and 20(3) An assembly comprises metal members 1, Fig. 1, each of semi-tubular cross-section, i.e. a hollow rail the cross-section of which is closed except on one face where it has a pair of re-entrant wings 4, 5, a shoe 2 within the member 1 and a screw 3 extending through a tapped hole 6 in shoe 2 and by pressing against the bottom of the channel forcing the shoe 2 against the wings 4, 5. The fixed and movable frames 9, 10, Fig. 6, of a casement window, may be formed from lengths of semi-tubular rail joined at the corners by angleshaped shoes 2 having one limb 2<SP>1</SP>, 2<SP>11</SP> in each adjacent rail length. The rails may be of various shapes and the wings 4, 5 may have inwardly projecting ribs and recesses to engage corresponding formations on the shoes.
