Abstract

1,124,367. Sliding windows. H. SHAPIRA. 31 Dec., 1965; No. 55399/65. Heading E1J. The sashes of a sliding sash window are provided with grooves 12, Fig. 11 which engage over the limbs 7 Fig. 6, of a U-shaped lower rail of the main frame which is provided, above the base 6 with a roof or platform 5, the upper rail and stiles being of similar formation so that angle connectors 10 may be introduced into the cavity 11 for connecting the corner members together to be held by screws &c. passed into the slit tubular portions 9. The sash members are connected together at the corners by angle members 15 which are accommodated in enlargements 12a of the grooves 12 in each of the stiles and trails of the sash and secured by pins or rivets 16. The lower rail is provided with plastic inserts accommodated in the enlargement 12a to avoid metal to metal contact (Figs. 2 and 3). One or both of the flanges 7 may be extended beyond the base 6 to the same or different lengths and a rail for upper and lower windows in a rest may be formed integral with each other (Fig. 10). The upper and lower rails of the sashes may be provided with two parallel grooves engaging over the flanges 7, 7b of the outer frame, and the sashes may be formed from a single member with the two grooves or from two members each with one groove placed one on the other. The base 6 may oe replaced by inturned flanges to provide a longitudinal slot.
