Abstract

894,105. Silos. SOLON, M. D. Feb. 1, 1961 [April 7, 1960], No. 3889/61. Class 20(1) [Also in Group XXIX] A cylindrical tank or silo has a wall comprising upright; precast; reinforced concrete beams 1 the longitudinal edges 2 of which are imperviously jointed by concrete grouting 13, the bottom ends of the beams 1 being supported on a reinforced concrete footing 8 upon which a concrete floor 15 is cast. The beams are hollow and have their bottom ends set in a continuous concrete surround in a recess in the footing, which is reinforced at 9 and 10. Lengths of pipe 17 at the feet of adjacent beams connect the beam centres to permit drainage from the hollows 6 out through radial channels 11. The adjacent edges of the beams are flanged and grooved at 3 and 4 to key the grouting to them. The arms of cranked reinforcing bars 12 extend up into the grouting and across the tank floor which is also reinforced with a mesh 19. The tank is bound externally at 21 with high-tensile wires. A coping 22 closes the tops of the beams and their internal junctions 18 as well as the junction 20 between the floor and the walls are filled with a bituminous composition. A method of erecting the tank is also claimed.
