Abstract

137,415. Yorke, P., and Standard Building Construction Co. Feb. 27, 1919. Crops, storing and preserving; ensilage.-The roof of a silo for the storage of fodder is built up of radial reinforced-concrete principals N supported by a cornice 0 of reinforced concrete and a wedge-shaped finial P. The principals are connected by wires, and the roof is completed with slabs of concrete covered with waterproof cement S. An inlet door T is provided in the roof, approached inside and out by steel steps U built into the wall, which is constructed of blocks B of concrete, Fig. 4, moulded with vertical apertures C therein and semicircular grooves D at each side, which form spaces when the blocks are assembled, for the reception of cement to form a joint. A continuous steel rod F is embedded in cement at the top of each tier of blocks. At certain points in the structure, specially-formed blocks are inserted to leave oval apertures G internally recessed to receive convex covers secured by sliding bolts.
