Abstract
721,923. Silos. DOANIDES, P. J. Aug. 20, 1952 [April 29, 1952], No. 20866/52. Class 20(1). [Also in Group XXIX] A silo is constructed by erecting pre-cast concrete vertical wall elements 1 along the outer perimeter thereof and spaced at small distances apart, filling the spaces with concrete 2 cast in situ, banding the outer surface with circumferential or helical tensioned steel rods, bands, cables or wires 7, and finally covering the banding with an outer layer of rendering 8. The elements 1 may have steel reinforcing 3 which may protrude from the sides thereof to secure the concrete 2, and the latter may be applied by the vacuum process. The silo may be circular, elliptical, square or rectangular in plan, may comprise one or more lifts of such elements, and may have a smooth interior and a smooth or ribbed exterior. The foundation may comprise a reinforced concrete annulus 4 rebated to seat the elements 1, a sectional floor 5 and asphaltic sealing 6.
