[Class 20 (i)] [Also in Group XXIX] Reinforced concrete containers for liquids or materials such as grain are built of prefabricated, reinforced units with projecting parts connected by mechanical means, all or a considerable part of the bottom being totally separate structurally from the walls and transmitting the vertical pressure of the contents directly to the ground or other support, jointing material being inserted between the bottom and the walls. The containers may be circular or polygonal. In Fig. 1, the walls comprise units 1 with flanges 2 connected by bolts, cables or wires 3, the flanges having interlocking tongues and grooves, and jointing material, such as soft mortar and a layer of insulating material at the inside of the container, being interposed ; the bottom comprises units 6, 7, resting on sand, or a concrete slab made in situ. The walls may comprise two or more superposed rings of units, the rings being connected by horizontal flanges and bolts. In Fig. 4, the container comprises wall units 15 and corner units 16 each having integral therewith horizontal slabs 18 which fit together to form the outer part of the bottom. The right angle corner units of Fig. 4 may be replaced by diagonal units 19, Fig. 7, with integral triangular bottom slabs 18a. The base slabs 18, 18a may extend beyond the outer sides of the vertical slabs 15, 16, 19. In Fig. 10, the units have flanges 25 which continue below the base slabs 18a, concrete members 27 then confining the sand bed 13. In another form the bottom units 6, 7 are omitted, the walls being built on an existing surface and sealed thereto. In Fig. 12, the container comprises frames 29 with grooves receiving the wall slabs 1 which are supported on bottom beams 32 which confine the sand bed 13 ; long bolts 30 connect the various frames 29. The frames 29 may be closed at the top by transverse members supporting a roof for the container, and members similar to bottom beams 32 may be provided above the wall slabs 1.
