Abstract

The precast reinforced concrete wall panels (P) are connected by an in situ concrete ground beam (2) to form the retaining wall of a raised silage storage bay. The construction process is initiated by digging a perimeter trench (T) 500mm wide times 600 mm deep, in which is placed 100mm thick square in situ concrete pads (1) at regular intervals. The pads form bearings for the conjunctive ends of wall panels (P) which are then secured by filling the trench with concrete (2). The panels have horizontally projecting bars (3) which are cast into a floor slab (S). The latter slab is cast as a completion operation, and panel ends may have a vertical trapezoidal section groove.
