965,240. Building foundations. H. B. FEHLMANN. Dec. 21, 1960 [Dec. 24, 1959], No. 43997/60. Heading E1S. A foundation for a building is constructed by digging two holes 2, 3 in the ground, in which is placed wire netting enclosures 7 or removable shuttering mounted on reinforcement 5, 6 which overlaps the reinforcement placed in the intervening part 4 when this is subsequently excavated, the enclosure 7 finally being filled with concrete. The intervening part 4 later also being filled with concrete to form a continuous reinforced concrete foundation. Subsequently a further two holes 9, 10 are dug and similarly filled and joined together and with the reinforced concrete of the holes 2-4 to form a further part of the reinforced concrete foundation. The reinforcement consists of horizontal and vertical rods 5, 6 respectively. During excavation the holes are filled with bentonite to support the sides of the holes and the shuttering, a shallow trench being initially provided between the holes 2, 3, 9, 10 to allow the bentonite to flow from one hole into a hole dug later.
