A process of founding prefabricated units of a building structure, which may be performed under water, comprises excavating a trench 3 to an extent that the floor thereof is approximately one or two inches deeper than the depth of the planned foundation, lowering a structural member 1 into the trench and holding it therein by suspension, e.g. by.the crane 2, at the planned level, filling soil into the spaces between the sides of the member and the walls of the excavation as well as underneath the member along the side edges, densifying this soil, e.g. by a depth vibrator 5 and filling the remaining hollow space 4 below the member by injecting a setting substance, e.g. cement mortar. The soil around the excavation may be exchanged for a better grade soil and densified prior to placing the member in position.
