[Also in Group XXIX] A valve mechanism for a hydraulicallyoperated jaw crusher having a plunger 1 reciprocated in a cylinder 3 comprises a valve 9 which is rotatably mounted in a cylinder 9a and has a pair of ports 12 of like size and located diametrically opposite each other whereby during alternate complete to-and-fro movements the valve hydraulically connects the plunger by the ports, to a ram cylinder 7 and during intervening complete to-and-fro movements connects it elsewhere. The cylinder 3 in which the plunger reciprocates is mounted on trunnions 4, 5, so as to oscillate as the plunger is reciprocated by a crank 6 on a shaft 2. The trunnions form the valve cylinder 9a in which the valve 9 is rotated by a chain drive 10 at a quarter of the speed of the shaft 2, and during the alternate complete to-and-fro movements, the fluid displaced by the plunger passes through ports 11 and the ports 12 which are in communication with passages 14, 18 in the valve cylinder 9a, a recess 19 and a passage 16 leading to the ram cylinder 7 of the jaw crusher. During the intervening to-and-fro movements of the plunger, the rotation of the ram closes the communication between the ports 12 and passages 14, 18, and diametrically-opposed ports 13 communicate with passages 15, 20 in the valve cylinder 9a and a recess 21 and passage 17 leading to a fluid-receiving air chamber 8 or a second ram cylinder. In an alternative embodiment, the valve 9 is oscillated by a crank driven from the shaft 2. Specifications 642,315 and 839,091 are referred to.
