Abstract
893,434. Valves. DRAIJER, W. Sept. 12, 1958 [Sept. 24, 1957], No. 29275/58. Class 135. [Also in Group XI] In an oil or gas burner having a combustion air passage concentrically surrounding the burner, the mouth of the passage is fitted with a device comprising two parts movable relatively to one another for controlling the amount and degree of convergence of the air flow, the parts being so apertured and disposed that relative movement in one direction increase the air flow and directs it more axially, whereas movement in the other direction reduces the air flow and directs it more radially inward. The device may consist of a fixed set of spokes 6 mounted on a fixed sleeve 4 surrounding the burner body 1 and carrying a set of coaxial rings 7 forming a truncated cone, and a second set of spokes 9 mounted on a sleeve 8 slidable on the sleeve 4 and carrying a set of coaxial rings 11 forming a second truncated cone. The angles of the two cones are chosen so that the apertures between the rings close progressively from the outermost inwards as the airflow is reduced. Both sets of rings or the fixed set only may be in the form of tubes through which a coolant flows.
