Abstract
A high octane motor gasoline of volatility such that 40% by volume is recovered at 100 DEG C. consists essentially of a blend of a higher boiling fraction of a platinum reformate constituting between 40 and 60% by weight of the reformate and a lower boiling fraction of a catalytic cracker gasoline having an end boiling point between 80 DEG and 120 DEG C. which has been treated to remove normal alkanes and alkenes therefrom. ("High octane" is defined as "having a research O.N. (clear) of at least 90"). Preferably the composition contains 40 to 60% of the high-boiling, and 60 to 40% of the low-boiling fraction, by volume. The alkanes and alkenes may be removed by treatment with a "molecular sieve" such as a natural or synthetic zeolite. The catalytically cracked fraction may be treated for reduction of sulphur content. The final blend may contain T.E.L. Specification 811,919 is referred to.
