Abstract
Premium gasoline is obtained by reforming over a platinum catalyst in the presence of hydrogen a straight run gasoline having an initial boiling point of not more than 70 DEG C. and an end point of not more than 150 DEG C. to obtain a reformate having an octane number (research, clear) of at least 100 and removing by distillation not more than 20% by weight of the higher boiling materials to obtain a final product of octane number at least 99 and a volatility of at least 47% by volume recovered at 100 DEG C. Reforming may be effected at 500-550 DEG C. up to 30 atmospheres absolute, 0,5-2 vol../vol/hr. 3-10 molar hydrogen to hydrocarbon ratio in the presence of up to 0,03% by volume water vapour and 10 p.p.m. halogen.
