Abstract
892,416. Photomechanical printing surfaces, producing. SUOMEN PANKKI-FINLANDS BANK. June 27, 1958, No. 20624/58. Class 98(2). [Also in Group XXXVI] Printing surfaces are formed or corrected by electrolysis by allowing electrolyte to leak or ooze in regulated manner from a container around or through a dielectric protector to form by surface tension a drop or layer of electrolyte extending between an electrode and the workpiece and bounded by the dielectric protector and connecting a source of electric current to the electrode and the workpiece in such a manner as to cause either etching or plating of the workpiece only in that region where its surface is contacted by the electrolyte. As shown, a vessel 9 containing electrolyte 4 carries a nib 2 of insulating material fixed adjustably by a screw 21 against the electrode 3 attached to the lower portion of the vessel and having a hole 19 therein to allow the electrolyte to leak. Electrolyte is allowed to flow from container 9 into the funnel-shaped electrode 3 through the hole 18 under the control of the push-button-operated valve 8. Other types of electrode and nib structures (Figs. 3 to 6, not shown) may replace the parts 2 and 3.
