Abstract

891,498. Covers for vehicles. KEMPF, H July 21, 1959, No. 25001/59. Class 103(2). A flexible cover for a motor vehicle, Fig. 1, comprises a thick central longitudinal rib 1, Fig. 2, strip steel springs 8; Fig. 4, extending perpendicularly from the rib on each side thereof, the springs normally rolling up the cover as shown in Fig. 3, and ducts 7 and 4 extending parallel to the springs and the rib, respectively, and communicating through valves 5, 6 with a compressed air supply, whereby the cover may be unrolled against the action of the springs. The ends of the rib 1 are provided with hooks 2, 3, to engage over the front and rear bumpers of the vehicle. When the hooks are so engaged the cover is inflated and sliding fasteners along the edge of cut-outs 11, 12 are closed. Thereafter the bottom edge of the cover is pulled to the vehicle by pull cords on that edge so that the cover retains its operative position in event of the ducts deflating. The cover is held spaced from the vehicle body by expandible projections 10 on the bottom walls of the ducts 7 and spacers on the rib 1.
