Abstract

998,427. Stowing spare wheels in luggage compartments. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. June 29, 1964 [July 25, 1963], No. 26753/64. Heading B7J. A spare wheel and tyre in a vehicle luggage compartment is held to lie flat against the side wall of the compartment by a jack pressed against the wheel, the jack being first placed over a threaded stud fixed to the vehicle and then held in position against the wheel by a nut on the stud. In Figs. 3 and 4, the wheel is accommodated in a well 12 and is held in place against a bracket 14 by a jack 19 expanded against a fixed bracket 18 and an arm 20 hinged at 21. In another embodiment, the metal brackets 14, 18 and arm 20 are flexible.
