A sliding cover for a vehicle has hoopsticks 8 carried on runners 7 which engage tracks 6 on the sides of the body the hoopsticks 8 being urged apart by flat spring strips 15 which bow outwardly when the rearmost hoopstick 81 is drawn forwardly by ropes 11. The parts of the side walls of the vehicle to the rear of the cover when drawn forwardly may be arranged to hinge downwardly.
