Abstract
891,144. Reclining seats. LORENZ, A. July 18, 1958 [Aug. 2, 1957], No. 23087/58. Class 52(2) In a reclining chair movable to a tilted position and to a fully reclined position and having a seat 4, back rest 5 and leg rest 6, the back rest is pivoted at 9 by means of a bracket 7 to a seat link 8 secured to the seat 4 and co-operating with links 10, 11, 12. The leg rest 6 is supported by a lazy tong linkage 25 pivoted to the chair frame at 27, 30 and a link 17 is pivotally connected to the chair frame and to links 10, 11 at their connection. A link 19 pivotally connects the other end of link 11 to the frame at 21 and a link 22 connects plate 7 to link 19, a lever member 29 of the lazy tong linkage being connected by a link 32 to link 8. In the upright position of the chair the connected ends of links 10, 11, 17 rest on the transverse member 2 of the chair frame. During movement to the tilted position link 11 remains stationary and the back 5 acts as though it were rigid with the seat 4 and tilting of the unit expels the leg rest through lever 29 and link 32. Further pressure on the back rest causes link 19 to turn about pivot 21 and lifts links 11, 17 to reach fully reclined position (Fig. 5). In a further modification, Fig. 7, the seat 4 carries a rigid bracket 75 pivoted to an arm 77 rigidly fastened to the back rest 5 and connected to a link 79 which is pivoted to a link 92 pivotally connected in turn to a bracket 95 mounted in the crossmember 2. A front guiding link 80 connects the seat 4 to a plate link 90 and to the leg rest lazy tongs, the said plate link 90 being connected also to the seat by a toggle linkage 86, 87 whose pivot is connected by a link 84 to link 80. A link 97 pivotally connects plate 90 to the chair frame and a pin 91 on the plate limits movement of link 86 so that further pressure on the back rest moves the plate link 90 to the fully reclined position. In yet another modification, Fig. 10, a plate link 133 is connected by links 127, 131 to the frame and by links 115 and link 120 and a triangular link 118 to the seat.
